The Clay of the Grave of Ĥusain (a.s.): A Cure and Protection

Abul Ḥasan (Imam Riďā (a.s.)) sent me some clothes that were wrapped up, in the middle of which there was some clay. I asked the person who had brought the clothes about this clay. He said, “It is the clay of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.). He (Imam Riďā (a.s.)) does not send clothes or anything else to anyone without putting some of this clay within it and he says, ‘It is protection with the permission of Allāh.”

I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: Make the first thing which is rubbed on the palate of your (newborn) babies the clay of (the grave of) Ḥusain (a.s.), for verily it is protection.

I heard a man ask Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “Can I take some of the clay of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) and keep it with me to seek blessings from it?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “There is nothing wrong with that.”

I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: Verily the clay of the Ḥā`ir, where Ḥusain (a.s.) is buried, is the cure for every disease and it is protection against any fear.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: If a believer, who suffers from an illness and who believes in the rights of Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Ḥusain (a.s.)) and believes in his sanctity and divine authority, uses some of the clay of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.), he will be treated and cured by it even if the clay is collected from a distance of one mile away (from the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)).
