I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “Is it obligatory to perform Ghusl before going to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “No.”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: If you are close (in proximity) to him – referring to Ḥusain (a.s.) – and it is possible to perform Ghusl before going to him, do so. Otherwise, perform Wuďū and then go to him.
