“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a slave- girl who belongs to me and an heir (one who has a share in her price as part of his legacy) with me. We set her free. She has a brother who is absent and she is virgin; if it is permissible for me to marry her or it is not permissible without the permission of her brother. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it is permissible for you to marry.’ I then asked, ‘Can I marry her if I wanted?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, you can do so.’”
