Hadith 1520
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa and others from Qutaybah al- A’sha’ or he said, Qutaybah ibn Mehran from Hammad ibn Zakariya who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one fills himself up with watercress after performing Salat (prayer) of al-‘Isha’ he will spend the night while his soul invites him to leprosy. 5 ”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى وَ غَيْرِهِ عَنْ قُتَيْبَةَ الْأَعْشَى أَوْ قَالَ
قُتَيْبَةَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَا تَضْلَعُ الرَّجُلُ مِنَ الْجِرْجِيرِ بَعْدَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الْعِشَاءَ الْآخِرَةَ فَبَاتَ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ إِلَّا وَ نَفْسُهُ تُنَازِعُهُ إِلَى الْجُذَامِ .

Hadith 1521
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one eats watercress during the night the vein of leprosy will hit him from his nose and blood will flow thereof.”’
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ
مَنْ أَكَلَ الْجِرْجِيرَ بِاللَّيْلِ ضَرَبَ عَلَيْهِ عِرْقُ الْجُذَامِ مِنْ أَنْفِهِ وَ بَاتَ يُنْزَفُ الدَّمُ .

Hadith 1522
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Musa ibn al-Hassan from Ahmad ibn Sulayman from his father from abu Basir who has said the following
“Once, a man asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about endives, sweet basil and watercress. He (the Imam) said, ‘Endives and sweet basil are for us and watercress is for banu ’Umayyah.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ
سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الْبَقْلِ الْهِنْدَبَاءِ وَ الْبَاذَرُوجِ وَ الْجِرْجِيرِ فَقَالَ الْهِنْدَبَاءُ وَ وَ الْبَاذَرُوجُ لَنَا وَ الْجِرْجِيرُ لِبَنِي أُمَيَّةَ .

Hadith 1523
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Nusayr Mawla’ abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), from Muwaffaq Mawla’ abu al-Hassan (a.s.), who has said the following
“When my master ordered buying herbs he ordered quite a large amount and also watercress. It then would have been purchased for him and he (the Imam) would say, ‘How dimwitted certain people are when they say that it grows in a valley of hell and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, says, ‘Its fuel is people and stones’ (2:24); then how can herbs grow therein?”’
عدة من أصحابنا، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن نصير مولى أبي عبد الله عليه السلام، عن موفق مولى أبي الحسن عليه السلام قال
كان مولاي أبو الحسن عليه السلام إذا أمر بشراء البقل يأمر بالاكثار منه ومن الجرجير فيشترى له وكان يقول عليه السلام: ما أحمق بعض الناس يقولون إنه ينبت في واد في جهنم والله عز وجل يقول:وقودها الناس والحجارة فكيف تنبت البقل.
