Zakat of Sheep

“Abu Ja‘far, and abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, have said, ‘The amount of Zakat for sheep is one sheep for every forty sheep. There is not anything on what is less than forty. Thereafter there is no increase in Zakat…

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Zakat is not due on what is fed at home (as opposed to grazing) or that which feeds others and that which is kept for its milk or ram kept for breeding.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ’Akulah is not accepted. It is the great ewe among sheep, or the one that gives birth to it, as well as its breeder.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about lamb when Zakat is obligatory for it. He (the Imam) said, ‘Zakat is obligatory when it becomes Jadha‘ (one year old).
