The Case of Dresses not Permissible to Use in the State of al-’Ihram, but a Pilgrim Faces an Emergency Condition

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man whose sandals were destroyed and was not able to find one, said, ’He can use a shoe in an emergency. He can tear its back for an opening and if he wears a shawl he must not button it.…

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who in the state of Ihram wears shoes and socks. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can do so in case it is an emergency. ‘“

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said that Ali (a.s.), would not consider it harmful if one knotted his cloths, in case it was short, in Salat (prayer) even in the state of Ihram. ‘“
