Al-Amali
Al-Āmālī (which means dictations) is a book of hadith by Abu ʿAbdillāh Muhammad al-Baghdādī popularly known as Shaykh al-Mufīd (d. 413 AH). The hadith were dictated to his students during a period of seven years in the months of Ramadan. It contains a total of 387 hadiths which were cited over 42 meetings with the students. These meetings were held in the month of Ramadan where al-Mufīd read the traditions giving the chain of narration ending up to himself, and the students wrote them down. The book is considered as an important source of Shi’i hadith.
The hadith cover topics in ethics, principles of religious beliefs, and history, such as; Human actions being recorded by angels, Love of Ahlul Bayt resulting in heaven, virtues of the Ahlul Bayt and their Shī‘ah, virtues of people who seek knowledge, illnesses being a purification for one’s sins, knowing the position of Ahlul Bayt and the acceptance of one’s actions by God being conditional upon belief in wilāya etc.
The book also contains some specific supplications as well as some sermons from Imam Ali and Imam Zaynul ‘Ābidīn ‘alayhimas-salām.
